This report examines alternative methods for detection of explosives in commercial aviation. The report s primary conclusion is that there does not appear to be any single detection technology that can provide the levels of sensitivity and specificity that will have both a significant effect on reducing the threat and an acceptable impact on airport operations. The report analyzes a number of detection technologies and provides broad priorities for allocation of funding for continued research and development.
