This report is the product of a committee of 12 leading experts in psychiatry, the broader neurosciences, medical education, and mental health economics. It contains 14 specific recommendations that aim to enchance the training of the next generation of patient-oriented researchers in psychiatry. The authoring committee and the Institute of Medicine believe that this book represents a useful resource for all interested in: 1) the education of clinical and research psychiatrists, and 2) the evolution of an effective mental health care infrastructure. The work will likely be of interest to medical educators outside of psychiatry as well.
