received bachelor’s degrees in mathematics from the University of Arizona and for encouraging them to pursue mathematically based careers. He serves on many national advisory committees dealing with the teaching of mathematics at the K-12 level and with minority issues. He received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Arizona.
