Monitor the solar extreme ultraviolet spectral irradiance (at wavelengths less than 120 nm) for sufficiently long periods to fully assess the long term variations.

Monitor globally over long periods the basic structure of the lower thermosphere and upper mesosphere so as to properly define the present structure and its response to solar forcing.

12.

Conduct observational and modeling studies to understand the chemical, dynamical, radiative and electrical coupling of the upper atmosphere to the middle and lower atmospheres.
