Appendix E Analysis of Advanced Life Support Technology Development Projects To better understand the variety of projects under way at the NASA centers in advanced life support, the committee asked NASA for information on all the projects under way in FY96. NASA responded to the committee's request, and an enumeration of all the projects listed on the technology data sheets is tabulated in Table E-1. The functional categories in the table were chosen to reflect the life support system functions identified in Table 2-2. Additional categories were added for system management and environmental monitoring/sensors to accommodate projects being conducted in those areas. The committee sorted the projects into appropriate categories based on the brief descriptions provided by NASA. The numbers in the table represent a simple tally of individual projects being pursued in each category and do not reflect relative funding. Funding levels for individual projects ranged from $10,000 to $600,000.
