NCI leadership initiates major reorganization based on recommendations of the Ad Hoc Working Group of the National Cancer Advisory Board and NCI.

Office of Research and Minority Health holds four meetings, one for each of the four racial and ethnic groups identified in U.S. Office of Management and Budget Directive No. 15: African American, Hispanic American, Native American, and Asian and Pacific Islanders.

1997

NCI Director's Consumer Liaison Group is formed.

1998

En Accion Training Manual, a community-centered health communications manual drawn from successful experiences of the 5-year research and demonstration project of the National Hispanic Leadership Initiative on Cancer, is published.
