This system collects volatile organic vapors from the tanks holding the petroleum feedstock and directs them to a combustion chamber where they are used to fuel one of the thermal processes required to produce the polyester. In the absence of this system, the volatile vapors would be released to the atmosphere, creating an air pollution problem and wasting the energy value of the volatile organics. The tour included a description of the polyester production process and examination of the energy recovery and pollution control system.
