Appropriate uses of each of the new DRIs are described briefly in this chapter and in more detail in upcoming reports on the uses and applications of the DRIs. Also included in this chapter are specific applications to the nutrients discussed in this report. Details on how the DRIs are set with reference to specific life stages and genders and the primary criteria used to define adequacy or adverse effects for each of these groups are given in Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7 through Chapter 8 of this report.
