Neither of these proposals was for biomedical research projects that the Trust normally funded; however, the Trust was interested in funding such proposals, and these two became the first of what were to become General Organizational Grants. In 1989 the Trust held another "think tank" session during which input was sought from a number of biomedical scientists on directions for Trust funding during its remaining term.
