The temperature fluctuations indicated by our analysis of the North Atlantic marine record are difficult to quantify, but the latitudinal differences between the occurrences of tropicalsubtropical assemblages indicate fluctuations in mean annual temperature of at least 10-IS°C at high middle latitudes; these fluctuations were, thus, at least as great as modern seasonal fluctuations.
