NMD must continue to be sensitive to the emerging needs of the federal agencies for the operational production of special-purpose continental and global scale map products, such as those associated with programs such as the global change initiatives and those of the Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction Program. Finally, the committee also recommends that NMD expand its research program and improve its ties with universities and public and private sector users, in the interest of improving the overall quality of our national cartographic enterprise.
